CORNELL LIBRARY CORNER

Weekly Library Spotlight

All library books must be returned and fines resolved by 5/22/26Thanks for doing your part to make sure our collection is complete and can be enjoyed by everyone!

This week’s content:

Digital citizenship was the main focus this week and it was matched with previews of high-interest newly added books in our collection. Here’s a sample of what was explored at each grade level:

  • 1st:  Recognizing when you or someone else may need space when something goes wrong with technology and how to ask for that space.

  • 2nd:  Understanding that digital footprints are often permanent and why it’s important to think before you share anything online

  • 3rd:  Exploring digital information sources and guided practice using the kid-friendly search engine Kiddle to answer questions and identify website sources

  • 4thRecognizing signs of digital peer pressure and identifying strategies to use when faced with it (Pause Power; Strong Responses; & Asking for Backup from trusted adults)

  • 5th:  Recognizing media influence and understanding why it’s so important to be able to see it and think critically about digital content

First Check-out Raffle:  The Academy VI

Upper grade readers who love sports (and even those that don’t) regularly give 5 stars to T.Z. Layton’s series, The Academy. The newest book comes out this Tuesday. If your reader wants to be included in the raffle to be the first to borrow it, tell them to stop by the library and fill out a raffle slip by 5/5. The book will be checked out to the lucky winner on Wed, 5/6.

Library Fan Art Poster Contest

Keep encouraging your readers to participate in this year’s fan art poster contest! This is a kids-only activity; caregivers and older siblings can encourage them and provide inspiration, but please let the kids do all the work and shine! Extra poster papers are available in the library. If anyone needs art supplies, please connect with me and I’ll send a set home so everyone has what they need to participate. Entries due:  Wed, 5/13

Ms. Kate, Cornell’s Teacher Librarian, is reachable anytime at kbowman@ausdk12.org to respond to any questions, needs, or requests.
