CORNELL LIBRARY CORNER

Weekly Library Spotlight

This week’s content:

TK enjoyed reading Ursula Upside Down, another modern classic from Corey R. Tabor while Kinder-5th explored digital citizenship lessons and had fun with a Dewey Scavenger Hunt:

  • Kinder learned “pause, breathe, & finish up” when it’s time to put their devices down.

  • 1st learned to identify the three main reasons why people create media: to teach, entertain, or sell.

  • 2nd learned how to make sincere apologies when mistakes occur while using technology. They practiced the 3 parts of a good apology in role plays (be specific; recognize others’ feelings and the impact; and make a plan for the future).

  • 3rd focused on conflict resolution using the CALM strategy (Communicate kindly; Ask an adult for help; Look for fair compromises; & Make space for boundaries).

  • 4th analyzed how content creators make media for targeted audiences and learned to recognize the primary purposes of media: to persuade; inform; and entertain.

  • 5th talked about how our digital identities are formed by what we do and share online as well as what others post about us. They learned strategies for identifying their personal boundaries regarding content sharing and communicating them to others.

Spring Break Reading Challenge Is Here!

To promote a love of reading and maintaining stamina, kids are encouraged to participate in the Spring Break Reading Challenge. Papers went home from classroom teachers and all entries must be received by Friday, 4/17, to earn a special certificate and be entered in the raffle to win prizes.

Ms. Kate, Cornell’s Teacher Librarian, is reachable anytime at kbowman@ausdk12.org to respond to any questions, needs, or requests.
