PRINCIPALLY SPEAKING

Dear Coyote Families,

We had a fabulous Community Time this past Thursday, celebrating Black History Month and Lunar New Year. Our student performers did an amazing job!

Starting next Thursday, 3/5, we will follow Spring Conference schedule through Friday, March 13th. During this time, 1st - 5th graders will be dismissed at 1:45. There will be no change to the TK/K schedule during conference week.

We are seeing a growing amount of toys on campus. Please remember to keep stuffies at home. If students need a fidget tool, teachers have a variety of fidgets to offer students. Watches that include games should be kept at home and may be confiscated when students are using them at school. When possible, please opt for digital or analog watches for students to tell time.

Lastly, our March safety drill will focus on preparing students for a potential danger on campus - a lockdown drill. Over the next couple of weeks teachers will be talking to classes about what to expect. Your support of navigating this with your child is appreciated. Here are a couple of online resources for families regarding lockdown drills and how to talk about them with children: Tinybeans.com and  Child Mind Institute. Please reach out to the Main Office if you have any other questions.

Have a wonderful weekend!

In community,
Catherine Floresca

We are so excited to host guest author Annie Barrows on Monday, 3/2! She’ll be sharing her picture book Like with the TK/K readers and her newest series, Stella and Marigold with 1st-3rd. The kids LOVED the previews I read to them this week!

Celebrating Culture through Literature

This month we have had several collections on display that represent our community’s rich diversity:  Black History Month; Lunar New Year; & Ramadan. While the TK-3rd prepared for Annie Barrows’ visit this week, 4th and 5th graders experienced book talks across fiction genres that focused on award-winning, contemporary black authors. Jason ReynoldsKwame Alexander, and Kwame Mbalia were stand-out favorites!
