Dear Albany Community,
On Tuesday, I was appointed as Interim Superintendent of Schools for the Albany Unified School District.
I’m honored to be able to step into Dr. Wells' position as Interim Superintendent. Dr. Wells loved Albany. His goal and mission was to make Albany Unified a district that everyone was talking about in the State. He was proud of the community, parents, staff, and especially Albany’s students. He would say, “My students are the best,” and genuinely loved the students. I have only been in the District two days and already understand why this community gave him so much joy.
I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Wells since he first started in Albany. For many of you that don’t know this, I was his professional coach. Since retiring from Berkeley Unified in 2019, I have been coaching superintendents in the Bay Area. Every month, we would meet and talk about how to achieve his goals in the district.
When I heard of his passing, it was important for me to ensure his vision for the year was accomplished. I thank you for giving me this opportunity to carry out his dreams. I know the District is healing and so am I. We all are healing together.
An Interim Superintendent position is temporary, which is ideal for me as a retired educator. I look forward to keeping AUSD moving forward while the search for a permanent Superintendent progresses. As I visit all the schools and attend events and programs, I hope to meet many of you. Please don’t hesitate to introduce yourself! I will be honored to get to know you, just as Dr. Wells did.
Cornell Play Structure Now Open!
Cornell Elementary opened their new play area on Thursday. See the photo above of this marvelous new addition to the playground. There are several different parts—the new play structure itself, shade canopies, and a whirlygig. These have come together above a new, all natural cushioned surface made of cork. The Cornell community, and especially the students, have been anticipating this opening of the play area for a long time and will celebrate with a ribbon-cutting ceremony next month. Because of ongoing construction work preparing for the future installation of the HVAC system, the Cornell yard will be closed over break, Monday–Friday, but should be open to the community on weekends.
Spring Break Is Here!
All schools are closed next week for Spring Break. Please have a refreshing and relaxing week.

Querida comunidad de Albany,
El martes fui nombrado Superintendente Interino de Escuelas del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Albany.
Es un honor para mí poder ocupar el puesto del Dr. Wells como superintendente interino. El doctor Wells amaba Albany. Su objetivo y misión era hacer del Distrito Unificado de Albany un distrito del que todo el mundo hablara en el estado. Estaba orgulloso de la comunidad, los padres, el personal y especialmente de los estudiantes de Albany. Él decía: “Mis alumnos son los mejores” y realmente los amaba. Solo llevo dos días en el Distrito y ya entiendo por qué esta comunidad le dio tanta alegría.
He tenido el privilegio de trabajar con el Dr. Wells desde que comenzó en Albany. Para muchos de vosotros que no lo sabéis, yo fui su entrenador profesional. Desde que me retiré del Distrito Escolar Unificado de Berkeley en 2019, he estado entrenando a superintendentes en el Área de la Bahía. ¡La estructura de juego de Cornell ya está abierta!
La Primaria Cornell abrió su nueva área de juegos el jueves. Vea la foto de arriba de esta maravillosa nueva incorporación al patio de juegos. Hay varias partes diferentes: la nueva estructura de juego en sí, marquesinas y un remolino. Estos se han unido sobre una nueva superficie acolchada totalmente natural hecha de corcho. La comunidad de Cornell, y especialmente los estudiantes, han estado anticipando esta apertura del área de juegos durante mucho tiempo y lo celebrarán con una ceremonia de inauguración el próximo mes. Debido a los trabajos de construcción en curso que preparan la futura instalación del sistema HVAC, el patio de Cornell estará cerrado durante las vacaciones, de lunes a viernes, pero debería estar abierto a la comunidad los fines de semana.

コーネル プレイ ストラクチャーがオープンしました!
コーネル小学校は木曜日に新しい遊び場をオープンした。遊び場に新しく追加されたこのすばらしい写真を上の写真をご覧ください。新しい遊びの構造そのもの、日よけの天蓋、そしてつむじまきなど、いくつかの異なる部分があります。これらは、コルクで作られた新しい、完全に天然のクッション性のある表面の上にまとめられています。コーネル大学のコミュニティ、特に学生たちはこのプレイエリアのオープンを長い間待ち望んでおり、来月テープカットセレモニーで祝う予定です。将来の HVAC システムの設置に備えた建設工事が進行中であるため、コーネル大学のヤードは月曜から金曜までの休み期間中は閉鎖されますが、週末には地域社会に公開される必要があります。

코넬 플레이 구조가 공개되었습니다!
