Dear Albany Community,
Wednesday was International Walk and Roll to School Day, and there was great participation throughout the District. One of the many wonderful things about Albany is its small size, and the opportunity it provides children to get to school under their own power. This is called “active transportation” and it supports the goal of being responsible global citizens in this time of climate change. Plus, it provides exercise and transitional downtime between home and school. The City of Albany has been working toward making our streets friendly and safe for pedestrians and cyclists, and active transportation is an important part of our new Safety Task Force and the Environmental Action Master Plan Draft.
Special Board Workshop: Environmental Action Plan
The AUSD Environmental Action Master Plan Draft will be discussed at a Special Workshop Meeting of the Board of Education next Monday, October 17, 6:30–8:30pm, in a public, in-person meeting at the Ocean View Elementary School library. No action will be taken at the workshop; it is for discussion and input. Comments on the Draft Plan are welcome, either through this form, by email to Board members, or at the Workshop itself. The Draft covers a wide range of topics including Carbon Neutral Schools (including a shift to solar power), Transportation, Zero Waste, and Healthy Schools.
Celebración Latina!
I hope you plan to come to the Celebración Latina hosted by Familias Latinas de Albany on Saturday, October 15 from 12–4pm at Albany Middle School. There will be a fantastic variety of food vendors, bands, dancing, and crafts. Everyone is invited.
Albany Triathlon
The Albany Triathlon returns as a live, in-person event this Sunday, October 16 from 8am–1pm. This community event benefits AUSD sports teams and is a short, family-friendly event of swimming, biking, and running at Memorial Park. Volunteer and your hours will benefit a team!
AHS Homecoming
Albany High has been celebrating Homecoming Week with theme days all week long. Class color day, Decades Day (if you were wondering why you were asked what people wore in the 80’s…), and the traditional atrium decorating competition kept spirits high this week. Homecoming will culminate with the first Homecoming Dance in over 10 years this Saturday, October 15.

Estimada comunidad de Albany,
El miércoles fue el Día Internacional de Caminar y Rodar a la Escuela, y hubo una gran participación en todo el Distrito. Una de las muchas cosas maravillosas de Albany es su pequeño tamaño y la oportunidad que brinda a los niños de ir a la escuela por sus propios medios. Esto se llama “transporte activo” y apoya el objetivo de ser ciudadanos globales responsables en esta época de cambio climático. Además, proporciona ejercicio y tiempo de inactividad de transición entre el hogar y la escuela. La Ciudad de Albany ha estado trabajando para hacer que nuestras calles sean amigables y seguras para peatones y ciclistas , y el transporte activo es una parte importante de nuestro nuevo Equipo de Trabajo de Seguridad y el Borrador del Plan Maestro de Acción Ambiental.
Taller especial de la Junta: Plan de acción ambiental
El Borrador del Plan Maestro de Acción Ambiental de AUSD se discutirá en una Reunión de Taller Especial de la Junta de Educación el próximo lunes 17 de octubre, de 6:30 p. m. a 8:30 p. m., en una reunión pública en persona en la biblioteca de la Escuela Primaria Ocean View. No se tomará ninguna acción en el taller; es para discusión y aportes. Los comentarios sobre el Borrador del Plan son bienvenidos, ya sea a través de este formulario , por correo electrónico a los miembros de la Junta , o en el Taller mismo. El Borrador cubre una amplia gama de temas que incluyen Escuelas Carbono Neutral (incluido un cambio a la energía solar), Transporte, Cero Residuos y Escuelas Saludables.
¡Celebración Latina!
Espero que planee venir a la Celebración Latina organizada por Familias Latinas de Albany el sábado 15 de octubre de 12 a 4 p. m. en la escuela secundaria de Albany. Habrá una fantástica variedad de vendedores de comida, bandas, bailes y artesanías. Todos están invitados.
Triatlón de Albany
El Triatlón de Albany regresa como un evento presencial en vivo este domingo 16 de octubre de 8 am a 1 pm. Este evento comunitario beneficia a los equipos deportivos del AUSD y es un evento corto y familiar de natación, ciclismo y carrera en el Memorial Park. ¡Sea voluntario y sus horas beneficiarán a un equipo!
Regreso a casa de AHS
Albany High ha estado celebrando la Semana de Bienvenida con días temáticos durante toda la semana. Class color day, Decades Day (si te preguntabas por qué te preguntaron qué vestía la gente en los años 80...), y el tradicional concurso de decoración de atrios mantuvieron el ánimo alto esta semana.
