Dear Albany Community,
Students and staff returned from spring break rested and refreshed, and everyone got right back to learning. Despite some late-season rain, school days this week were routine, a quiet week in which a lot was accomplished.
Calendar Survey
The calendar for the 2023–24 school year is being planned now and will be presented to the Board of Education for approval at the May 10 meeting. (The school year calendar for next year was approved and posted to the AUSD website last spring.) Three different calendars have been proposed for you to rank by preference. Please provide your input by responding to the appropriate survey at the link below.
Keep in mind that the calendar shifts that we made this year, and are continuing into future years, have been in response to several issues, such as alignment with neighboring districts (which affects camps and childcare, as well as fall athletics). One major issue was the previous practice of having high school final examinations in January. Students told us that the examination schedule denied them a true break in December and contributed significantly to their stress. The District took action on this by shifting our academic calendar to an earlier start date. This year was the first year that students have had their finals in December, and the change has been beneficial for our students’ mental health.
Open Houses
AUSD schools are planning on holding their annual Open Houses in person again! Albany Middle School is hosting an Open House next Thursday, April 21, 7:00–8:00pm. This is a time to come with your family and take a look at your student’s work. Before the event, enjoy the Jazz Band in the courtyard from 6:40–7:00pm. Cornell, Marin, and Ocean View Elementary Schools will host their in-person Open Houses on Thursday, May 12. Look in your school newsletters for more information. Face masks will be required indoors for all Open Houses.

Tenga en cuenta que los cambios de calendario que hicimos este año, y que continúan en años futuros, han sido en respuesta a varios problemas, como la alineación con los distritos vecinos (que afecta los campamentos y el cuidado de niños, así como el atletismo de otoño). Un problema importante fue la práctica anterior de tener los exámenes finales de la escuela secundaria en enero. Los estudiantes nos dijeron que el calendario de exámenes les negó un verdadero descanso en diciembre y contribuyó significativamente a su estrés. El Distrito tomó medidas al respecto cambiando nuestro calendario académico a una fecha de inicio anterior. Este año fue el primero en que los estudiantes tuvieron sus exámenes finales en diciembre, y el cambio ha sido beneficioso para la salud mental de nuestros estudiantes.
Casas abiertas
¡Las escuelas del AUSD están planeando celebrar sus jornadas de puertas abiertas anuales en persona nuevamente! La Escuela Intermedia Albany está organizando una jornada de puertas abiertas el próximo jueves 21 de abril, de 7:00 p.m. a 8:00 p.m. Este es un momento para venir con su familia y echar un vistazo al trabajo de su estudiante. Antes del evento, disfrute de la Jazz Band en el patio de 6:40 p.m. a 7:00 p. m. Las escuelas primarias Cornell, Marin y Ocean View realizarán sus jornadas de puertas abiertas en persona el jueves 12 de mayo. Busque en los boletines de su escuela para obtener más información.
