Dear Albany Community,
Construction is progressing speedily at Marin Elementary School. The first floor of the classroom building adjacent to Marin Avenue is framed, and we expect the first floor of the building on the Santa Fe Avenue side to be up soon. Both second floors will be next. Projects are ongoing at Cornell Elementary School, too. At the top of this post you can see a photo of the beautiful new Community Mural facing the playground at Cornell. The mural was a PTA and community project, and designed by artist Sandrine Demathieu, an AUSD alum. During the painting, students were surveyed about what they would like to see in a renovated playground. Extensive planning is being done to install air conditioning inside the building before the next school year, subject to receiving the necessary state approval.
Last but not least, AUSD has opened 1216 Solano as the new Enrollment Office. Already, parents are visiting this office daily to enroll incoming Kindergarteners. New Albany residents and transferring families now have a centrally located, convenient place to enroll their students. The spacious building will be renovated this spring for Special Education, Database Management, and Enrollment offices.
Masking Update
Our first week of having the option to take masks off indoors on school campuses has been completed without incident. The overwhelming majority of students and staff are continuing to wear masks indoors at all AUSD school sites, and most are also continuing to mask outdoors, except when actually eating or drinking. AUSD strongly recommends masking indoors, and all schools will be sending out reminders on this point. High-quality masks are available on request in school offices. Lunch will remain outdoors for the foreseeable future, which we have found provides an excellent break in the school day and is even more pleasant in this beautiful spring weather. All schools are emphasizing respect for choices, and providing support for family decisions.

- Two AHS scholars, Natalia Toledo and Alma Culverwell, who studied abroad last summer as CIEE Global Navigators received the Global Seal of Biliteracy. Natalia is also the co-president of the Albany High Interpreters Club.
Upcoming Board Meetings
In this new section, we will be letting you know about upcoming Board meetings, often well in advance, so that you can note them on your calendar. Although agendas for these meetings aren’t available until close to the meeting, the meetings listed here will let you know what’s on the AUSD Board schedule. In accordance with the Brown Act, the agendas for regular Board meetings are posted 72 hours in advance, and email notifications are sent to the community at the time of posting.
